CCM Care Guidelines – 2025 Update

Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Clinical Management of Cerebral Cavernous Malformations of the Brain and Spinal Cord: Consensus Recommendations Based on Systematic Literature Review By the Alliance to Cure Cavernous Malformation Clinical Advisory Board Experts Panel – 2025 Update

Cavernous Malformation Clinical Care Consensus Guidelines aim to educate patients, care providers & physicians; increase the level of patient care; and support the establishment of Clinical Centers of Excellence.

These guidelines benefit the patient and clinical communities by providing a comprehensive set of consensus guidelines for CCM diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment. The authors include members of the Alliance to Cure Cavernous Malformation Scientific and Medical Advisory Boards and invited experts.

This 2025 update of the 2017 guidelines offers the latest information on lifestyle factors impacting hemorrhage, expanded spinal cavernous malformation and pediatric CCM sections, and diagnostic guidelines.

The new clinical guidelines and supplementary materials are now available online in the journal Neurosurgery as of May 21, 2025. They can be downloaded and shared freely.

We encourage patients to print these guidelines to share with providers or share them through patient portals. While particularly relevant to neurosurgeons and neurologists, these guidelines may also benefit other providers involved in your care, such as OB/GYNs, primary care physicians, and pediatricians.

Sharing this information helps ensure your entire care team is informed and aligned on the latest recommendations.
